Plastic Surgery is an important decision in your life. And choosing your Plastic Surgeon is the most important factor in your decision making process. Like all major decisions, you should make them informed and with knowledge of all factors involved. Always conduct research on your Plastic Surgeon. Remember, it’s your body and you deserve a properly qualified Plastic Surgeon and care. Below is the list of standards your doctor should meet, while making your decision which Surgeon, is best for you.

Make sure American Board of Plastic Surgery (A.B.P.S) certifies your Surgeon.  Board Certification is obtained after the surgeon has completed seven years training, two years practice of plastic surgery and passed rigorous examinations. Prior to applying for Board Certification the surgeon has also completed undergraduate college, medical school, an approved general surgery residency, and an approved plastic surgery residency.  The American Board of Medical Specialties (A.B.M.S.) only recognizes the American Board of Plastic Surgery, for certification in plastic surgery specialty. Do not consider a surgeon with any other misleading certification boards. Those boards mislead consumers to believe, that their doctors are educated and accredited by a Plastic Surgery Board. We know your health, body, and its appearance is important to you. Choosing a Board Certified Surgeon in Plastic Surgery is the first step in making an informed decision.

There are no laws to confine a physician to only practice medicine or surgery in the field for which they have been trained. Therefore, legally a doctor with no educational or training in plastic surgery can perform procedures. Because the law is lenient in this area, does not mean that the doctor is competent to perform plastic surgery procedures. You would not go to a cardiologist if you had an impacted tooth. So, choose an American Board of Plastic Surgery Certified Surgeon to perform your Plastic Surgery.

Even if you plan to have an in office procedure, check your doctor’s hospital affiliations. Knowing your surgeon is affiliated to an accredited health care organization is another step in making an informed decision. A surgical staff appointment to an accredited healthcare organization, indicates that the Plastic Surgeon has been reviewed by medical colleagues on their performance and capabilities. Knowing his colleagues and professional organizations respect your surgeon is the next step to making your informed decision. Check for memberships in professional societies for plastic surgeons. Doctors in the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (A.S.P.S.) and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (A.S.A.P.S.) must be carefully trained in both reconstructive and cosmetic surgery. Also, a requirement of membership is an ongoing medical education. Knowing your surgeon is continuing their education, and is aware of the newest techniques and complications, is important in evaluating the best Plastic Surgeon for you.

Research the surgeon’s support team. Your Anesthesiologist is a key member of the operating team. Training, education and experience in Anesthesia specialty is as important as it if for your Plastic Surgeon. We use Board Certified M.D. Anesthesiologist, in our office based surgical facility. We know how important your health is to you. We choose qualified and experienced support teams for Dr. Adam Licznerski’s operating staff.

Your last step in your decision making process is an initial consultation with the Plastic Surgeon. Again, we know this is a big decision in your life. Your rapport with the surgeon is the key factor in this process. During your initial consolation, Dr. Licznerski will discuss your expectations. You must feel at ease with your surgeon to ask all your questions about all stages of the procedure. Dr. Licznerski will also discuss all risks and side effects. If you request, the doctor will review the before and after pictures of the procedure you are inquiring. Dr. Licznerski will examine you, explain steps of the operation, and give you information on preoperative and postoperative care and considerations.

It’s important for you to trust and have confidence in your Plastic Surgeon and his staff. We want you to be healthy and safe. We encourage you to make an informed and educated decision. How you feel about the surgeon and their staff is an important part of your surgical experience. No matter what procedure you choose, the most important factor in it’s success, is your choice in the Plastic Surgeon.
